Summary: For the RPA Spring Luncheon on Thursday, May 9, 2024, please note the both the new day of the week, Thursday and the new venue in Livermore location, as an attempt to serve our Central Valley members.

Our guest speaker will be new RPA member Dr. Subhendra Banerjee, who will tell us about the TPMG Senior Surgical Care Program.

The Senior Surgical Care Program is a standardized way of providing appropriate surgical care for the elderly. The program is in alignment with the standards created by the American College of Surgeons for geriatric surgery known as the Geriatric Surgery Verification Program.

He will tell us about the history behind the creation of the program in KP Northern California, the strengths of our organization which allowed the creation of the program and its subsequent spread to the other hospitals in Northern California Kaiser and to other KP regions.

He will discuss how the process of preoperative evaluation, perioperative care, care in the hospital and subsequent post hospital care determines the successful outcome in this high-risk patient population.

Dr. Banerjee was a staff surgeon doing general surgery, bariatric surgery and thoracic surgery at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center Fresno from 2000 -2023. During his tenure he trained in performance improvement and completed the Patient Safety Executive Development Program at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). In 2011, he was appointed as the APIC for Quality and Patient Safety and oversaw Outpatient and Hospital Quality and Patient Safety. He was also the Surgical Quality Leader from 2011-2022.

Additionally, he has been involved in regional KP projects like the Hospital Acquired Pneumonia (HAP) Pilot, NSQIP (ACS National Surgical Quality Improvement Program) and ERAS (Early Recovery After Surgery) Regional Roll out for all Inpatient surgeries.
